RENT Leitz Hugo LPL Prime Kit - 18mm,28mm,50mm Features
LEITZ has unveiled its new HUGO prime lens series, a compact, fast, and lightweight set of cine lenses designed with exceptionally close focusing capabilities-while preserving the distinctive character of classic Leica M glass.
The initial lineup consists of seven full-frame primes ranging from 21mm to 90mm, all featuring a T1.5 aperture. Additional focal lengths, including 18mm and 135mm, are planned for a later release, along with a standout 50mm T1.0.
The HUGO name honors renowned engineer Hugo Wehrenfennig, whose contributions at Leica Camera (then Ernst Leitz GmbH in Wetzlar) include the creation of the iconic Leica M bayonet mount still in use today, as well as many early M-series lenses.
Building on the success of the Leitz M 0.8 series, the HUGO lenses offer a more direct translation of Leica M optics into a cine format. LEITZ has further refined the concept by upgrading the housing design and construction to meet the standards of its existing high-end cinematography lenses.
The HUGO lenses will be available in LPL mount and feature classic cine ergonomics, including focus and iris scales in standard orientation, expanded focus markings, a 270 Degree focus rotation, and significantly improved close-focus performance. Despite these enhancements, the lenses remain impressively small and lightweight, starting at 1.78 lb (810 g) and measuring between 2.7 and 4.4 inches (68-112 mm) in length.
As with other Leitz cine lenses, the HUGO series will benefit from long-term serviceability, with readily available spare parts, replacement elements, and trained lens technicians to ensure consistent performance over time. In the future, existing Leitz M 0.8 lenses will also be eligible for conversion to the HUGO format.
